The Bell Hotel is conveniently placed at the junction of the A11 and A134 and is just a short walk from the local interest point the Thetford Priory. Steeped in history and known as the home of the cast and crew of Dad's Army during filming, The Bell Hotel combines country house comforts with all the amenities you'd expect from a modern hotel. Its striking location makes it perfect for country walks and is only 5 miles from the beautiful Thetford forest.
We stayed at the Bell Hotel which is a 15th Century coaching Inn and comes complete with resident ghosts (apparently). Thetford has a number of town trails which enable you to see this very understated place. On the second day we visited nearby Ely which has a fantastic Cathedral and an equally impressive Cromwell's House.
We loved the whole area and thoroughly enjoyed the break.Thetford is a good central point for exploring Norfolk Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful as were all local people we met.The restaurant facilities were good with a varied menu and definitely value for money. It is a pity that the hotel has fallen into disrepair and is very shabby with scuffed paintwork and thread bare carpets for example. This hardly presents the picture of what is a good hotel and I would feel unable to reccommend it to my friends until it undergoes refurbishment.
