Very comfortable and excellent value weekend break. Well positioned hotel for access to main routes and tourist attractions of Cambride, Newmarket and Essex.
We enjoyed our Christmas break at the Huntingdon Marriott Hotel. The staff worked hard but were very cheerful. our only slight criticism was that as the hotel was location in a busines park off the A14, there was not an opportunity to take any walks directly from the hotel. The entertainment was good fun but some of the games rather slow and we did not think that perhaps they had been planned well. Overall, the break was good value for money, and the Marriott's improved beds and linens do make a great difference.
Spent 3 nights at Hinckley Island Hotel, ate in hotel 1st nite - very small portions and expensive. Try the Harvester a mile away, much better choice!! Really nice bar at the hotel though, so worth having a drink there when you get back although again the prices are a bit steep. Lovely pool area, nice and relaxing, though the changing rooms could do with a better clean!!. Overall a nice relaxing break - when we pulled up at hotel, just of M69, was a bit worried, but was pleasantly surprise - would definately stay there again.
The Marriot is a modern hotel just off the A1 giving easy access to both Cambridge and London. I have stayed before and visited The Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon. This time I was alone rather than with my family and ventured into much less well travelled territory.. After a great night?s sleep, a refreshing dip in the pool and generous breakfast I set off for Little Gidding to see where the annual TS Elliott Festival is held. What a charming, remote village. Surely this is the England that people seek when they visit The Cotswolds. Beautiful uninterrupted countryside stretching as far as the eye can see.. Having viewed the heraldic windows in Little Gidding Church, installed during its ?refurbishment? in 1853, I stepped even further back in time. A short walk along silent footpaths took me to the 12th century church at Steeple Gidding. Rebuilt in the 14th, 15th and subsequent centuries this tiny place of worship seems brim-full of memories. I could only sit and wonder at who might have sat before me in the pews. In a crazy busy world I had found peace, and relished every moment.. On the drive back to the hotel I stopped at The George in Buckden for lunch. What a discovery! Fine food in a wonderfully airy room. Attentive service and all at a price that left me wishing I had taken friends!. My visit to Huntingdon uncovered so much more than I expected. I can?t wait to return to uncover... Read full review ]
We stayed here out of convenience while attending a family birthday in the locality so can't really comment on the location from a tourist point of view. The hotel is on an industrial estate so not inspiring scenically! However the hotel itself was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant, courteous and helpful. Although we booked at the last minute and apparently got the last rooms available (my inlaws failed to get a room when they tried to book later the same day) we got adjoining and connected rooms for us and our 2 kids. The rooms were spacious and quite luxuriously appointed, although I found the bed a tad on the firm side. The pool and gym were better than average and well maintained. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant which had a good reputation but was pretty expensive (25 for 3 course buffet) or more expensive al a carte. Breakfast was of good quality but the staff struggled to cope with large numbers of people at peak time and so not all breakfast items were available when wanted. For tight Tykes like us the Spiceland Indian buffet (Old North Road that runs parallel to the A1 between Huntingdon and Peterborough) offer all you can eat and huge variety for less than a tenner. Outside it looks a real shack, next to a petrol station, but inside is quite pleasant and great food!
