Rather tired and dated hotel. The stairs next to the lift did not go to our rooms on the second floor - had to use stairs in other part of building. We had paid for room, breakfast and dinner, and were told at the hotel, that they no longer do that option, so our Superbreak paperwork was checked each time we had an evening dinner. The room was comfortable with lovely scenic views over the river waveney. The extractor in the shower was not working, resulting in a damp smell. Also the heated towel rail was not working. As we were only there for two days we did not report this. The staff were very pleasant and obliging.

Brilliant location for a hotel. Lovely views over the water / birds. Went in December so very cold but good walks, excellent pub meals (can't remember the pub - right out of the hotel, it's the second one). Hotel was comfortable but needs a bit of money spending on it to update it. They also need to compete more with the local pubs as they are losing out to them at the moment.

Hard to find with road atlas. Hotel and grounds badly signposted, especially car park markings. External entrances to Reception/Bar/Restaurant not clear. Internal directions (to Dining Room) non existent. No welcome pack in rooms with info on facilities in hotel/locally. Door locks and handles upside down - hard to use especially when carrying luggage. Several steps on way up to our room, difficult if we had been less able bodied. In room 33, one of the best hotel rooms we have ever had in this country, even a TV in the bathroom. Staff/housekeeping: Staff very friendly and helpful a bonus, bearing in mind lack of signs and information displayed. On second floor we were unable to find stairs down as these were not marked other than as 'fire exit', and opened inwards not outwards as normal. Understood a recent new manager in place. Could I suggest he makes an attempt to be pleasant and responds to greetings from to guests - I greeted him 4 times but was not acknowledged, and noticed he did the same to other guests and staff.

We had stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed a view of the Broad. However, this time no rooms were available overlooking the Broad and the room we occupied although clean and comfortable overlooked the airconditioning/fire escape and unfortunately the airconditioning ran until 10.30 pm and started again at around 5 a.m. in the morning. So we had a disturbed sleep. Apart from that we could not fault the hotel at all. We love the area and enjoyed visiting and walking around. The restaurants in the area are okay but nothing special

The Wherry is a wonderfully appointed hotel next to the Lock on Oulton Broad and we had a wonderful room overlooking the broad and the marina - we couldn't have wished for a better view. The room had recently been refurbished and was lovely. We walked to Lowestoft one day and had a lovely day coming back to Oulton Broad on the train in the evening. The second day we walked to Somerleyton along the Angles Way, unfortunately Somerleyton Hall was closed but we enjoyed a couple of pints in the local pub and caught the train back to Oulton Broad. We had a wonderful fish platter in the hotel for our evening meal. We had a fantastic 2 day break thank you.
