Located close to the centre of Chesterfield, and within sight of the ‘crooked spire’, this hotel is in a great position from which to explore the many delights of this community and the countryside that surrounds it. The rooms have all been furnished to a high standard and offer a place of rest and relaxation, away from the stresses of modern life.

Primary reason for going was for football match but there was a side issue ultimately. Excellent high street, pedestrianised shopping with all high street stores. Also great choice of smaller shops including an independent book shop. Superb array of tea and coffee shops.. A lovely theatre, cinema, nightlife and very helpful, friendly locals

We wanted to do a walk so found Mam Tor near Buxton which was easy to climb. There was a car park and the attraction belongs to the National Trust so we, as members, could park free. We drove to Bakewell and had a Bakewell pudding and drank the water in Buxton. The crescent in Buxton is soon to be developed by a Spa Hotel company so it may be worth a return visit. It was disappointing that many of the National Trust properties and Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall were still closed for the season as we visited in February. However we did stop at Bolsover Castle which had fantastic views but closed at 4pm!

Idea of holiday break was to visit matlock bath and to see the illuminations and the cliff top fireworks. this was an excellant evening for us all and very well organised. disapointed with hotel in the evenings. Was not told when booking that they had a function on friday and saturday night. This was very noisy with the music until around 02.00 this left us with very little sleep!!!!

We only went for a relaxing break and to enjoy the countryside this we did. We visited Blue John Mine, the heights of Abraham at Matlock. Buxton & Bakewell. We also enjoyed the pool, steam room, jaccussi & sauna at the hotel before changing for dinner. Our only disappointment was Chesterfield at night (we enjoyed it by day). We were unable to find a nice pub which served local beer and also did evening meals. We felt a little uneasy by the police presence at night. However the hotel did serve very nice evening meals. We would like to go back to the area again earlier in the year.

We had no plans in mind for our break. New district to explore on foot and by car as we havn't been in that area before.
