We enjoyed our stay at the Burlington so much last year that we decided to return this year this time with our younger daughter (aged 14yrs). We went to the Bullring to spend her birthday money, she particularly enjoyed browsing in Waterstones. We also went to the Back to Back Houses which are a fascinating glimpse of social history.

The hotel is central and beside the train station the staff are very friendly, i would certainly go again. Birmingham is fab city!!

We arrived by train and were able to check in early. We had a snack in the Eat restaurant in the Bullring Shopping Centre. then we visited the Back to Back Houses near the Hippodrome Theatre (best to book in advance). These were fascinating and gave a real insight into life into Victorian Britain and into 1930s.

Well, the break would have started off better if we'd realised at the time that the car park nearest the hotel was in the Pallisades Shopping Centre. We spent two hours getting to Birmingham and another hour or so trying to find the hotel. We'd missed a turn at a roundabout, so we ended up going around and around the one way system and couldn't find the hotel. We headed towards the city centre, but we knew there wasn't a car park at the hotel. We kept finding shopping centres and other car parks, so we just decided to park somewhere and find the hotel on foot. Out of luck we just happened to park at the Pallisades car park, and discovered the hotel was opposite it in a pedestrian precinct.. The hotel itself was lovely, and on their own literature in the room, they did mention to look for the Pallisades car park, the Superbreak details hadn't mentioned that.. The breakfasts weren't the most inspiring we've had, but the full English was cooked to order.. We did have bottles of mineral water and biscuits in our room, but there was no fridge which would have been handy on hot days to deep drinks cool. To get ice, you had to ring room service, but they were always prompt.. Our room was clean and had everything you needed for a short stay, trouser press, ironing board, hair-dryer etc. There was even a telephone... Read full review ]

My daughter travelled up to Birmingham by car, I travelled down from Yorkshire by train.. I travelled first class and enjoyed my journey. The hotel was close to the station so no problems for me. . For my daughter driving into the centre of town and given directions to the car park by the hotel staff, spent 4 hours trying to find the car park, park and find the hotel! Our only complaint with the hotel is that we got locked out of our room after going to breakfast - our cards would not open the doors. Apparently this was caused by the mobile phone on charge inside the room. As a person with limited mobility I was very annoyed having to go downstairs to the lobby to rectify the problem before I could access the room again.. On the plus side my daughter parked her car for the duration of our visit and the hotel offered subsidised rates which was much appreciated. Our room in the hotel was spacious and comfortable. The staff helpful and friendly. We had specifically come to visit Crufts Dog Show which we enjoyed throughly. An experience for dog lovers, not to be missed. We visited a couple of restuarants on the canal in Birmingham. Pleasant but nothing exceptional. Sunday we visited Barnt Green and the countryside. We had lunch at the Barnt Green Inn. Great. Good atmosphere, good food and great decor.
