Each of the rooms in the hotel is named after a character or a play from Shakespeare, celebrating the fact that the establishment is at the heart of Stratford upon Avon. There is a great restaurant in the hotel that serves a fine selection of food and drink throughout the day. There is a great deal to see and do locally in this charming and historic community.

Tariff from 69 per room per night

Lovely cosy Hotel, food excellent, but small portions on evening meal. Car park awkward to find. Clientelle bit snobby, but overall very enjoyable stay, super location and beautiful charming hotel.

After dropping into The Mecure Shakespeare Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon for post theatre drinks I decided this would be the place to stay for my annual dose of culture. I booked my theatre break again through Superbreak who always make sure you get great seats. The Shakespeare is a quaint building with large open fires, comfortable seats and lots of olde worlde charm that makes it ideal for those seeking a relaxing break. It was so comfortable I found it really hard to prise myself away from the fireplace to do a spot of Christmas shopping, but I forced myself. A girl has to do what a girl has to do and there are some fabulous art galleries, clothes shops and jewellers close by. If you don't like the hustle and bustle there is always the walk along the river. Its central location, only a couple of minutes walk from the RSC theatres makes it an ideal location for women on their own to stay. The only grumble I had was the limited parking spaces they have at the hotel but you are more likely to get a space if you stay a couple of nights Friday-Sunday. I just stayed over Saturday so had to go to the NCP carpark which is about 7 minutes walk from the hotel. However, their Porter is really helpful and you can drop off your bags en route. I had concerns leaving my car overnight but the security is really good. Overall, one of the... Read full review ]

Make sure you book ahead for the restaurant (Quattros) at the RSC. For a play starting at 1930 book for 1730 so you can enjoy the meal and not rush it !!. At the Mecure Shakespeare Hotel, literally a 3 minute walk from the RSC, pay a little extra for a feature room with a four poster bed. If watching a play in the Swan ask for tickets in Gallery 1. These will give you the best view whilst having a comfortable seat

Had a nice time. Hotel was good (apart from uncooked bacon for breakfast!) and staff helpful. As ever, the RSC was v. good and production excellent.

The main purpose of my visit this time was to see the performance of Merry Wives the musical. I thoroughly enjoyed this. On previous occasions I have enjoyed meals at the Main Theatre Restaurant and at Lambs Resaurant. I have also enjoyed the trip on the open bus; visiting the various buildings and gardens associated with Shakespeare.
