This 17th Century coaching inn is located in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside and is a place of tradition and calm, away from the stresses of modern life. The rooms have retained a great deal of the period features and traditional charms, but have also been fitted with modern amenities. There are many fine towns to visit in the local area.

Tariff from 29 per room per night

Only issue with train booking was that we were not told what station in London to get it from!! - luckily some local knowledge let us figure out it was Paddington - perhaps something to add to booking details?. Lovely relaxing trip, friendly locals and good atmosphere. Dont go looking for haut-cuisine or lots of entertainment though!! - if you want a break in the coutryside, and slow peaceful days, this is the place for you.

When it rains, you are restricted as there are no attractions for several miles. But when the sun is out it's a typical Cotswold old village. The Thames runs right through the village and the walks along it are beautiful. So old world and peaceful and a real step back in time. The local antique shops are incredable and many hours can be spent wandering round them and being taken back to how the world was many years ago.

Lechlade is an ideal base for touring the Cotswolds and is only about 90 miles from London.. The scenery is great, the buildings are mainly yellowy-light brown stone, there are some lovely little villages, like the Slaughters and Bibury, as well as the attractive smaller market towns of Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water with the stream running through it. Broadway is another attractive village on the way to Stratford upon Avon, which in itself is well worth a visit. Bigger towns are Cirencester and Cheltenham with its Regency buildings. Heading west of Cirencester and Tetbury towards the Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel there's the splendid Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge, founded by the late naturalist, painter and conservationist, Sir Peter Scott, son of the famous Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott who died with his colleagues attempting to be the first ever people to reach the South Pole in 1911/1912.. Prince Charles, apparently, stayed at my hotel about 15 years ago - I bet he didn't have my room though! It 's an 18th century coaching inn, but rather run down in my opinion - I would only give it 2 stars maximum instead of 3. The ceiling rose in my bathroom wasn't on the ceiling but hanging down, exposing the cables and a bit of wire so could have been dangerous if splashed with water. But I did get 4 nights for the price of 3 in your Superbreak offer so it wasn't too bad.

Our hotel was a great base for visiting many locations in the Cotswolds, not least Newbury Races. We also discovered it was not a million miles away from Cheltenham and was probably well attended during the recent Cheltenham week. It is surrounded by many quaint villages which are the stuff of English tourism, but we went low season so it wasn't overcome with overseas tourists. If you like clean air, lots of places to visit that are not an hour's drive away and good wholesome food, locally produced, this is the place to go.

We spent an enjoyable break in the Cotswolds recently visiting picturesque villages including the charming Bourton-on-the-Water and Moreton-in-Marsh. A day in Cheltenham allowed to shop till we dropped but we could still make the most of the superb scenery in the area. This is a lovely destination for a a few days rest and if you have good weather it will make all the difference.
