Like many interesting cities, Birmingham is best explored on foot. It is a very pedestrian friendly city with most attractions located centrally. Of particular interest are the indoor and outdoor markets which are a sheer joy - for the range of goods, the people and the atmosphere.

Exceptional value for money. Even though the hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment there was minimum disruption to guests. It was noted that the bar was shut at 23.45 hrs on our return from the concert - even though the information in the room stated it would remain open till 2.00am.Overall had a very pleasant evening in the NIA with lovely meal post concert. Exceptional shopping the next day. Only complaint - we found the on-line travel direction very misleading!

My 3 girlfriends and I spent a great weekend in Birmingham at the beginning of December. It was one of the girls' 40th birthdays recently and so we treated ourselves to a nice weekend away. Superbreak had an excellent deal with The Paragon Hotel, which is only 5 minutes from the city centre. We travelled down from Glasgow on the Saturday, stayed 2 nights then travelled back home on the Monday. For dinner on Saturday night, we went to La Tasca, which is just off Broad Street. Broad Street is where all the restaurants, bars and clubs are situated, so it's really lively and has a great atmosphere. The food in La Tasca is Spanish Tapas, and was excellent. We had a few drinks with dinner, then headed off to the bars, finishing with a couple of drinks back at the hotel. The following morning, we headed to the Bullring Shopping Centre and shopped til we dropped! We had tickets to see George Michael at the NEC for Sunday night, so we ate at the hotel (bar meals were very reasonable and tasty), then headed out for the concert. And on Monday we checked out and went back to the Bullring until we had to be back at the airport for our flights home again. In summary, the whole weekend was fantastic. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were a wee bit on the small side but clean and tidy. I would recommend that you stay at The... Read full review ]

Although it was the Christmas season and the Bullring Shopping Centrel was packed, having a short stay to do the shopping was a great idea. It meant that there was no rush and we had time to explore all the variety of shops that Birmingham had to offer! Queues were huge as to be expected this time of year but without that mad panic to catch the last train or worry about having to carry too many bags around, it made the shopping experience quite enjoyable!. The hotel itself was a bit of a disappointment with music being played pretty loud way into the early hours and the service from restaurant wasn't great. This didn't damper our Christmas spirit though which the city of birmingham successfully planted into our hearts. A sneaky place to grab a (relatively) quiet coffee was the starbucks hidden at the back of borders bookshop. It has great food and is a good chance to pull up a pew and relax while you decided which shops to assault next!

Had a good weekend enjoyed shopping night life as pubs
