Had a lovely night in Shrewsbury with my partner. Went out for a Cantonese Meal and then a few drinks around the various bars in Shrewsbury after. Very enjoyable night.
Ideal location, good food, wine and company. Beautiful surroundings, the time just went to quickly !!
We had a very short visit - due largely to Cheshire roadworks - and spent half a day shopping in Shrewsbury: far better than modern shopping malls. The local wine merchant, Tanners, was particularly good. We had a super meal in the Prince Rupert, though some of the other guests were bordering on rowdiness. The next day was spent at Dudmaston Hall in South Shropshire, after lunch at the Hundred House Hotel just north of Bridgnorth. Though mid-winter and a National Trust property, this proved very enjoyable with a snowdrop walk through the woods.
Car parking very difficult and not many 24 hour car parks. Bellstone Bar, great atmosphere. Hole in the Wall pub. Very limited choice of beer, poor service from staff, not made to feel welcome
Whilst this is a lovely building in a pleasant area of Shrewsbury the accomodation was not as it had been described. The double rooms are small, with outdated decor and tiny bathrooms. We had to pay an upgrade fee to get a suite just to feel comfortable in the room. We expected chance o relax in the hotel spa only to find a cold jacuzzzi which could bearly fit two people in, a luke warm sauna and a broken steam shower. All three items squashed into a small room without changing facilities - very disappointing. On the second evening of our stay none of the items were working at all. Shrewsbury itself is a lovely town with a mix of old and new. Thre are historical attaractions alongside modern shopping aracades, something for everyone. The bus service is excellent and reliable for exploring the local area.
