In a beautiful twenty-six acre park in the village of Birdlip, the Royal George hotel is a place of history and sophistication. Guests are invited to stay in a charming bedroom that has period features but also has modern amenities to make you feel at home. Gloucester is close by as well as a variety of Cotswolds villages that are filled with attractions.
We drove via Oxford to the hotel in Birdlip. The room was fine and newly furnished - but trouble with the signal to the newly fitted digital tv. We had a wedding meal in Cheltenham - excellent. We visited Chedworth Roman Villa again. Interesting. We also went to 2 church services, Emmanuel Cheltenham and one in the centre of Cirencester. On the way home we visited Charlecote Park near Stratford. A good 3 day trip!.
As a base to stay whilst visiting the wealth of National Trust around the Cotswolds the hotel proved to be excellent. An ideal stop for walkers on the Cotswold way.
Its a great place to stay if you want to drive every single day, but not a place to stay if you want to 'hang out' in a local village. The hotel location is very isolated with no local shops.
An excellent over night stay in a old hotel over looking gardens.
We had an excellent time at the Royal George in Birdlip. The staff were friendly and helpful and the meals served in the restaurant were superb. Excellent value for money.
