This romantic, 17th century coaching inn, in the Nottinghamshire village of Barnby Moor, rose to fame and fortune in the days of stagecoaches and highwaymen. Today, Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Restaurant offers the finest traditions of a fully refurbished country house hotel in extensive grounds, combined with modern comforts and facilities. The St Leger Bar and Bistro is at the heart of the hotel and offers guests an informal alternative to the elegant, oak panelled 1650 Restaurant.

Tariff from 70 per room per night

Great Hotel with plenty of Old World Charm only downside being noise reaching the room (possibly due to renovation work). Retford was a very pleasant town to visit and do Christmas shopping.

Centre very informative, short video gives good overview. Forest walks very easy to do, seeing the size of the 'old' trees was inspiring. Museum in Nottingham (Galleries & Justice) very good, especially for children and adults alike, the role playing was atmospheric. Many small villages to explore as well as towns like Lincoln and York, all worthwhile.

The Fawlty Towers entertainment throughout the evening was very good and enjoyed by all our party, thoroughly reccommended. However we were extremely disappointed in the attitude of most of the staff in the hotel. On arrival we were greeted with the most miserable receptionist we had ever seen, her attitude was most unwelcoming and very rude, but this was also the case with other members of staff. Mealtimes were very disorganized, in the middle of our evening meal we were asked to put our hands in our pockets and pay cash for our wine, breakfast was buffet style but food was in short supply and by the time you got some of your food the rest had gone cold, tea, coffee and cold burnt toast arrived after we had finished. Our party would like to book a murder mystery weekend but we would definitely not book this hotel.

We liked the hotel - old and creaky but clean and staff and food good. The weather was fairly wet and we just drove around the countryside, stopping where we found an interesting place to look at. We did visit Lincoln which is old and lovely with a magnificant cathedral. Unfortunately our visit coincided with a cycle race around the city so everything was either barricades or 'no go' areas. We hope to visit again when it is quieter.
