Had a lovely time in oxford, it's lively but relaxed, excellent restaurants, lot's of old style pubs, serving real ales, very nice market, good centre for shopping, lot's of university shops, plenty of buildings to photograph and museums ad botanical gardens to visit, boats to hire on the river but you need to have some form of identity with you as well as paying a deposit, spent a day looking round blenheim palace and woodstock, just had a very enjoyable time. The barcelo hotel is very modern and our first impression was a bit disappointing as it seemed to be too far out of town, but once we found where the bus stopped across the road from the hotel and how frequent they ran it was ok, and on a nice day it was a pleasant walk and this is how we found the north parade, a very pleasant find. The hotel rooms were very clean and modern with every thing you would need but probably had a bit too much furniture in them which didn't leave much space to walk round. The breakfast in the hotel was a bit disappointing on the first day, as the hot breakfast choice was barely warm and the beans were tasteless, tea and coffee also only luke warm, there were problems with the toasters, and shortage of variety of breads as stated on the menu, we stuck to the continental breakfast after that which was ok but not always... Visited family in Oxford. Weather was appalling very cold, which spoilt the visit to a degree.
Hotel very good + good easy location. Only fault was poor service at Costa coffee bar. restaurant fine for meal+breakfast.
We enjoyed 2 trips to the swimming pool in the hotel which fully relaxed us after a week at work and impending maternity!. Parking in Oxford can be pricey so public transport may be your best best. lovely city to walk around - stunning architecture. Fishers restaurant really was fantastic - simple and delicious
We arrived on Friday evening at Oxford.Did not do anything the first evening except get our bearings around the hotel. Thought the hotel restaurant was very basically kitted out for a 4 star hotel. We thought it was more like eating in a Littlewoods cafe!!!!. Saturday morning we were up early and went into Oxford City on the bus.We did a lot of sight seeing and had coffee in some lovely coffee houses. Late lunchtime we stopped of at an Italian restaurant and had a nice meal there.. Sunday we decided to have a quieter day, so we used the gym at the hotel in the morning and read the papers. In the afternoon we went for a quick bar snack at the Trout Pub. We liked the position, atmosphere and surrounding so much we went back in the evening as well.. Monday morning we left Oxford asfter a nice weekend break and stopped off at Cribbs Causeway on the way home.
