We greatly enjoyed this festival at Salisbury Cathedral which we stumbled on by chance. The hotel was perfectly located for visiting Salisbury, and was very good value except for the absence of a lift (due to planning restrictions). We also motored to the hill-top town of Shaftesbury with it's spendid views and challenging Gold Hill which Hardy's Tess struggled up when pregnant as I recall! Altogether well worth a visit! We left Shaftesbury to drive across Dorset on scenic roads to Bournemouth, our next port-of-call.

We had a very relaxing weekend in Salisbury. Views from the hotel of Salisbury Cathedral were very good. Very pleasant town.

The hotel is centrally situated so the Cathedral, Museums, Market Theatre etc. are accesible without need for a car. A car would allow visits to Old Sarum, Stonehenge and The Earle of Pembrokes stately home at Wilton to be easily managed in a day.

Hotel Mercure White Hart right in the centre of Salisbury was spotless, room lovely and away from road, good choice of breakfast and efficient staff. Beautiful medieval town with fantastic cathederal which is well worth a look. Lots of old buildings to see and plenty of shops to visit. Racecourse just down the road.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. The main problem was at breakfast. Although most was self-service I had to order my 2 poached eggs. After 20 mins I had to chase them up. They appeared 5 minutes later and were given to someone else. It took 35 mins eventually, none of the serving staff seemed to know who had ordered what - very poor. The New Inn was nicely spaced with nooks and crannies as well as a big room area for functions if required. The food was very good fare abd i can recommend the ambience.
