Barnsley makes an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Pennine hill country, secluded wooded valleys and the Elsecar Heritage Centre featuring steam trains, Newcomen and Beam engine and craft workshops is always worth a visit. All of the 75 rooms have television, hairdryer, trouser press and telephone with modem point, and of course the famous Forestdale ducks in the bathroom.
