Had a three day midweek break in North Yorkshire based in Boroughbridge ideal for exploring the area. Visited Harrogate, York, Skipton, The Yorkshire Dales and Ripon - had excellent hot and sunny weather which made all the difference, bit too hot at times Sleepless night with hotel room very hot overnight even with window wide open and dawn chorus at 4am but major contrast to Birminghams inner ring road. Black Bull in centre of Boroughbridge very good locally. Must book in advance for dinner at the Crown Inn at Roecliffe a local village

The weekend was a very good break. You are never short of something to do in York.We were very lucky with the weather as it was reasonably warm and the sun shone all the time we were there. I would consider a future visit.

Stayed one night in this local (ish) hotel for a treat and to pamper ourselves with the fabulous swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. Our room was very nice, comfy bed, large, clean and good sized bathroom. Unfortunately it was absolutely boiling all the time we were there. The heating was not on and the window did not allow much air through. We discovered next morning that our room (No. 80) was located directly above the sauna and leisure facilities and this could only be the source of the heat. We pointed this out to the staff on checking out who said that the leisure club was well ventilated and insulated so it was not possible. However we disagree (unless they have got a ghost in that room that gives off vast amounts of heat!) The temperature must have been at least 40 degrees C and the difference as soon as you stepped out into the corridor was incredible. As soon as you entered the room it was like getting off a plane in the Med! Other than no sleep due to the constant heat of the sauna the hotel was great and to be recommended-just stay away from room 80!

You need longer than a day to see York we first went to railway museum, had lunch and a ride on the wheel and it took most of the day so not much time for anything else and still so much still to see will have to come back.
