A great weekend in York with blazing hot sunshine, good company, good food, good drinks and a nice ambience. Spring was in the air. There were old couples, young couples, singles, families, every nationality you could think of and lots of smiling faces. From the ladies in the park drinking with the hen to the old boy selling the big issue everyone was having a great time. Whether it be the Cathedral, the museum, shopping at lakeland plastics or having a pint, I would happily go back to York for another weekend.

We had a fantastic break in York with our two daughters, aged 11 and 8. Our main aim was to go to Flamingo land which turned out to be the least favourite part of our holiday although the girls did enjoy it. We stayed in the Holiday Inn on Tadcaster Road which was ideally situated. It was a short, interesting walk into York. Our deal included breakfast which was excellent with every possible item on offer from fresh fruits and yoghurt to a full cooked breakfast. We loved York. It is a beautiful and varied city with something different on every corner. Everything is within walking distance which made it really ideal for a short break as you could easily visit more than one attraction in one day.We were particularly impressed with the National railway museum and Yorkshire wheel.

First of all, there is so much to do in York you really do need a good few days to take it all in! We only had 2 days and having lived in York previously, i had a few tricks up my sleeve. If the weather is sunny then i would recommend a long stroll around the Museum Gardens. with its stunning background of the old Abbey, landscaped lawns and the river below, it is the perfect way to pass a sunny afternoon. Carrying on the 'lazy Sunday afternoon' theme, The Kings Arms by the riverside is the place to go for an ice cold drink. providing there are no chances of flashfloods you should be ok at this popular spot. Sit on the quayside, relax and chat - speaks for itself really! Alternatively, for a more metropolitan feel, head to the highly stylish Pitcher and Piano. this boasts an excellent cocktail menu, great food and stunning terrace oerlooking the river. You can never struggle to find somewhere to eat in York, it really does have some excellent restaurants. Tuscany in St Mary's Square is a fantastic place for an early evening light dinner. the menu promises the best in contemporary Italian cuisine and certainly hits the mark at a price that won't break the bank. For an equally exotic and mouthwatering experience, try tapas (as i did for the first time) at La Tasca. great prices and lunchtime deals are to be had here and weather permitting... An excellent place to visit, so much to see and do.

We booked the whole train journey to York through Superbreaks, everything worked well. We would have liked to have also booked our hire car through them as well. We used the park and ride for York centre - convenient, not too expensive, easy to use, informative staff. Well recomended. At the York Holiday Inn, the rooms were comfortable and the breakfast good. The staff did not always understand the guests which caused irritation. The restaurant is not recommeded - overpriced, badly balanced courses (no veg), not able to fulfill simple request.
