The Talbot is a welcoming 18th century Coaching Inn offering fine bedrooms including 4 poster and family rooms, a relaxing lounge and bar with open log fires, paintings and antiques, as well as ample car parking. The Derwent Restaurant overlooks the gardens and river and offers a great English menu. An excellent touring base from which to explore the best of Yorkshire, including the Moors and Dales and the City of York.

The Talbot Hotel is typical of a certain era. It was almost possible to imagine Agatha Christie relaxing on a comfy sofa in front of a roaring log fire in the lounge. So the glory of a former era is a little faded, I couldn't have afforded it then now I make the most of it. The area around Malton has a wealth of historical places to visit. My favourite was Riveaux Abbey. The weather was cold and blustery but the absence of crowds made up for that. Also the new cafe, overlooking the magnificent ruins was a fabulous spot to drink a deliciously hot coffee. Malton itself is a lovely town. We found some great little shops in a converted theatre. Looking for a drink on a Saturday night, when all the pubs are catering for youth we were directed to Suddabey's which brews it's own beer -as they say in Yorkshire, grand

Was only at Malton two nights. hotel was okay food was very good staff seemed as though they were just learning got a good deal booking on net wudnt as i would av complained if ad to pay proper rate. York is a lovely city but wudnt go again on St Nicholas weekend no pleasure couldnt move never seen as many people

We spent Saturday in the Shambles at York then went onto the races. We ate in the hotel and then went round the pubs in Malton.

Looking at Archives in North Allerton to look up my family tree and then visiting places where my ancestors came from e, g Lastingham which I thought was a beautiful place with a beautiful Church
